I had my mole since I was in Grade 2. It started as a really really small dot and then it became this huge thing beside my nose. I can't say it was a love-hate relationship because I just want it out ever since it became so big. A lot of my friends that I consulted before having it removed said that my mole was my identity and it wouldn't be me if I had it removed. Anyway, long story short, I had it removed and it was the best decision I made so far when it comes to aesthetics.
Below are the options you can choose for mole removal: (Disclaimer: We have different moles. Sizes, colors and conditions of the moles vary from person to person. I researched these before having mine removed and pick out the best option for me. Please do more research on the following if you want to know the best option for you or better yet, ask your dermatologist).
- Mole removal creams - be it DIY using concoctions of apple cider or any other creams or over the counter creams like Amazing Touch. (Please be cautious in doing DIY's since this may cause more harm than good).
- Freezing - uses liquid nitrogen.
- Shaving - a numbing cream will be applied to the mole and will be shaved using a scalpel.
- Laser removal - effective for small moles that do not protrude above the skin surface.
- Cutting or excision - effective for bigger moles that may have cells grown beneath the skin surface. This uses a local anesthesia while the skin surrounding the mole is cut out using a scalpel or surgical scissors. This method may require a few small stitches to close the wound and can leave a small scar.
I was leaning on mole excision since mine was big. I consulted my dermatologist and true enough, my mole needs to be removed via excision. We made a schedule and her husband who is a Cosmetic Surgeon did the procedure. I was in really good hands.
The procedure took only 40 mins. My doctor did 4 micro stitches with the advise that I shouldn't wet the area for 3-4 days, apply an anti-bacterial cream and drink antibiotics for 8 days. After the 8th day, the stitches were removed and I was given a Silicon Scar Gel to help lessen the scarring.
Cost: Php 8,000
- Please know that the price depends on the size of your mole and the location on the skin.
